>> In a parliamentary government, there are two heads of authority:
(a) Head of State: Nominal head.
* Like the British Queen or the Indian President.
(b) Head of Government: Real head, plays a key role in administering the country and its affairs.
" Part V of the Constitution describes the Central Government.
President:
> The President of India is the first citizen of the country.
> The President is the head of the Indian Constitution.
> The President is the Supreme Commander of the Indian Armed Forces.
52nd Article >> There shall be a President for India who acts as the head of state.
53rd Article >> The entire administration of India is conducted in the name of the President.
* The President can administer the country either directly or with the help of other officials.
* The system of administering the country in the President's name is adopted from America.
* The Indian President acts as the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces.
54th Article >> As India is a republic, the President is elected by an "Electoral College".
* Members of the Electoral College:
(a) Elected members of Rajya Sabha - 233
(b) Elected members of Lok Sabha - 543
(c) Elected members of the Legislative Assemblies of the States, including those of Delhi and Puducherry.
