* Must not be prohibited from contesting elections.
* In accordance with the amended Representation of the People Act of 2002, must submit an affidavit containing personal details to the Returning Officer.

* Must take an oath before the Returning Officer as specified in the 3rd Schedule.
* By amending the Representation of the People Act, Parliament has the power to determine and change the qualifications of candidates contesting for Parliament.
C. Salaries and Allowances:
» Article 106 - Parliament determines the salaries and allowances of Members of Parliament.
» These are not subject to Income Tax and cannot be voted upon in Parliament.
Current Monthly Salary of MPs - ₹16,000.
G. 3. With other allowances, they receive ₹68,500/- per month.
> Monthly Pension after Retirement - ₹6,000/-
> In 2006, the Indian Parliament amended the 1954 MP Salaries and Allowances Act, making pension applicable even to those who served as MPs for a single term.
Cases of Disqualification of MPs:
> A person cannot be a member of both houses simultaneously [Article 101].
> If a person is elected to both houses, they must inform the presiding officer of the house they wish to retain membership of within 10 days. Otherwise, they will retain membership of the house they were initially a member of and lose membership of the house they were subsequently elected to.
>> If a person is elected from 2 constituencies to the same house, they must inform the presiding officer of the constituency they wish to retain membership of within 10 days. Otherwise, the presiding officer can decide based on their discretion.
» If a sitting Member of Parliament is elected to a State Legislative Assembly, they must inform the Chairman of the house they wish to retain membership of within 14 days. Otherwise, their membership of the Legislative Assembly will be forfeited.
> If a person holding a position as an MP takes up any office in the states, they will be given a month's time, after which their MP membership will be revoked.
> Article 102 - If an MP is absent from meetings for 60 consecutive days without the permission of the presiding officer, their membership will be revoked.
